How to print from your iPhone to an HP printer
Almost every HP printer from the last decade supports AirPrint, so your iPhone can print to it wirelessly with nothing to install. Printer App finds the HP printer on your network and adds copies, page ranges, and layout on top.
Print to your HP printer
- Connect the HP printer to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone (use the printer's touchscreen or the HP Smart app to join Wi-Fi).
- Open Printer App and choose a document, photo, or web page.
- Tap the printer field and pick your HP printer from the list.
- Set copies, paper size, and layout, then tap Print.
Older HP models
If your HP printer is older and doesn't appear, it may predate AirPrint. HP's own HP Smart app can add it, or check Apple's AirPrint printer list to confirm support. Either way the printer must be on the same Wi-Fi as your iPhone.
FAQ
- Do I need the HP Smart app to print from my iPhone?
- No. If your HP printer supports AirPrint you can print straight from your iPhone with no app. HP Smart is only needed to set up Wi-Fi, check ink, or use printers that lack AirPrint.
- Why won't my HP printer show up on my iPhone?
- Usually the printer and iPhone are on different Wi-Fi networks, the printer is asleep, or the router is isolating devices. Put both on the same network and wake the printer.
