Printer not showing up on your iPhone?
If the printer list is empty or missing your printer, your iPhone simply can't see it on the network yet. These are the usual reasons and how to fix each one.
Make the printer appear
- Put the iPhone and printer on the exact same Wi-Fi network — not a guest network, and not a different band with its own name.
- Wake the printer; many go into a deep sleep and drop off Wi-Fi until you press a button.
- Restart the printer and the router, then open the printer list again.
- Check that the printer is actually joined to Wi-Fi (its screen usually shows a Wi-Fi icon or IP address).
- If your network hides devices from each other (AP/client isolation), turn that off in the router settings.
FAQ
- My printer works from my laptop but not my iPhone. Why?
- The laptop may be on a different band or connected by Ethernet, while your iPhone is on a network that can't reach the printer. Put the iPhone on the same Wi-Fi the printer uses.
- Does the printer need to support AirPrint to show up?
- To appear automatically for iPhone printing, yes. If your printer isn't AirPrint-capable, you can often still print by adding it by its IP address or using the maker's own app.
