How to print from your iPhone without Wi-Fi
You don't always need a router. Many printers can create their own direct wireless connection (often called Wi-Fi Direct), and AirPrint can print over it once your iPhone joins that network.
Print over a direct connection
- On the printer, turn on Wi-Fi Direct (or its direct-connection mode) and note the network name and password.
- On your iPhone, open Settings › Wi-Fi and join the printer's direct network.
- Open Printer App and choose what to print.
- Select the printer and tap Print.
Good to know
- While connected to the printer's direct network, your iPhone won't have internet — rejoin your normal Wi-Fi afterward.
- Not every printer offers a direct mode; check the printer's wireless settings.
FAQ
- Can I print with no network at all?
- You still need a wireless link between the iPhone and printer. Wi-Fi Direct creates that link without a router, which is the closest thing to printing with no network.
