How to scan documents with your iPhone
Your iPhone camera makes a capable scanner. Printer App detects the edges of a page, corrects the angle, cleans up the image, and saves it as a multi-page PDF you can print, share, or sign.
Scan a document
- Open Printer App and choose Scan.
- Hold your phone over the page — the scanner detects the edges and captures automatically, or tap the shutter yourself.
- Add more pages the same way for a multi-page document.
- Choose a filter — color, grayscale, or black-and-white — and adjust the corners if needed.
- Save as PDF, then print or share it.
Tips for a clean scan
- Put the page on a surface that contrasts with it so the edges are easy to detect.
- Use even lighting and avoid shadows from your hand or phone.
- For text you want to copy later, run OCR after scanning to make the PDF searchable.
FAQ
- What format are scans saved in?
- Scans are saved as PDF by default, which keeps every page in one file. You can also export a scan as an image if you prefer.
- Can I scan more than one page?
- Yes. Keep capturing pages and they're combined into a single multi-page PDF in the order you scan them.
